DOHA -- Director of the Palestinian center for human rights Raji Al-Surani said Friday that the speech of UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on the Palestinian and Israeli response to Goldstone report is inaccurate and full of sophistries.

In a statement to Al-Jazeera website, Surani said that Israel violated the report’s demands when it formed a military investigation committee ignoring that Goldstone called for forming an independent civil judicial committee.

He added that the worst of all was Ban Ki-moon’s praise for what he claimed was Israel’s serious follow-up of the accusations leveled against it regarding the war on Gaza. Surani stressed that Israel did not comply with the minimum standards demanded by Goldstone report.

The center head also expressed his fears that Ban Ki-moon may take another step and clear Israel from all war crimes it committed against Gaza people, especially after he accepted financial compensation from Israel for the damages it caused to the UN headquarters and schools during the war.

In another context, Reuters news agency reported Friday that Israel acknowledged the exorbitant cost of building its defense system called the “iron dome” to intercept the home-made rockets fired by the Palestinian resistance from Gaza, and was opting instead to deploy this system on the borders with Lebanon.
