The Muslim Brotherhood in Assuit has confirmed that it will field six candidates to run in the parliamentary elections including one female. The announcement comes amid widespread arrests and raids on MB members following the news that the MB will participate in the elections scheduled for late November.
Dr. Mohamed Badie the group's chairman, announced last week that the group will contest 30% of the seats in parliament despite calls to boycott the race by other political opposition. The 2005 elections proved successful as the MB secured 20% of the total number of seats in parliament. Government officials however have been quoted as saying there will not be a rerun of the MB's 2005 success during the elections where the group acquired 88 seats surprising the ruling regime.
