Dr. Abdul Basset Al-Thaher organizer for the “Azhar University Teachers Reform club” called on Dr. Ahmed Al-Tayeb to set up a committee head by the Azhar University’s president Dr. Ossama Al-Abd to run elections for all the posts in the university and not only for the vacant ones.

Speaking to Ikhwanweb, he stressed it was important that free elections were held for all posts. “The professors reject decisions made to run elections only for vacant positions since the staff’s demands will be marginalised. We oppose the delaying of the professors’ demands which will only result in setting back the quality of performance of the Azhar institution in Egypt and abroad.”

Al-Thaher also called for improving the financial status of the University’s staff which will in turn reflect how they perform since they will be both acknowledged and appreciated. “These demands will only be met once the institution receives its independence and is able to make its decisions for reform without outside interference,” he said.
