Farid Ismail: More Consensus than Difference Prevail in Constitution-Writing Panel
Egypt charter-authoring committee officials assure there are more than 90% consensus over all articles of new national charter.
Friday, November 2,2012 06:08

Farid Ismail, member of the Constituent Assembly (CA) entrusted with writing Egypt’s first post-revolution national charter, affirmed that attempts to reunite patriotic political players and stakeholders and bring about a general consensus are important in this difficult phase of the country’s history.

Moreover, Ismail said that the points of consensus between all national forces are much greater than the points of contention.

In televised remarks, Ismail further said that the Constitution is certainly for all Egyptians; and that a national charter cannot be written or tailored for a particular faction or party alone, stressing that the draft document was released for the public, so as to hear and collect all criticisms and disagreements.

"All political forces and stakeholders must participate in the writing of the Constitution. There are a number of meetings planned among all stakeholders to unite and achieve wide-based consensus on all issues.

"The CA has almost finished writing the Constitution. Agreement has been reached regarding 8 important articles that were in dispute, while Articles still disputed are only 12, at the moment."
