Dr. Mohamed Gamal Heshmat, member of the Muslim Brotherhood's (consultative) Shura Council, said: "Youth spearhead the Egyptian revolution. Their leading of the revolutionary scene confuses and frustrates the traitorous putschists."

In a post on his official Facebook page, Dr. Heshmat added: "I solemnly salute the youth of Egypt in their first steps towards liberating their homeland, starting from Tahrir Square".

On Wednesday evening, Egypt's iconic Tahrir Square witnessed a 'flash mob' or  'instant demonstration' by two main anti-coup movements: Youth Against the Coup and Students Against the Coup, whose members and supporters turned up in Tahrir Square, then set out on a preparatory peaceful protest, starting from the middle of the square, and rallied all around it. The demonstration ended before the police had time to intervene.
