The Ansar Al-Asra (prisoners’ supporters) society has appealed to the Pope Benedict XVI to use his good offices in seeking a halt to the Israeli aggression and the oppressive siege imposed on the Palestinian people. The message addressed via the Pope’s special envoy in the Palestinian lands further pointed to the increasing Israeli murder, destruction and arrest operations that lately included the PA deputy premier, education minister and the speaker of the PLC. The society asked the Pope to intervene and demand the release of Palestinian prisoners especially minors, women, elderly and ministers and MPs, underlining that more than 10,000 Palestinian prisoners are held in Israeli occupation jails suffering deprivation, torture in addition to shortage of food and medical care. It finally hoped that the papal humanitarian and diplomatic efforts would be employed in backing the oppressed Palestinian people in a bid to restore rights and the lost peace in the region. |
