GAZA -- The Palestinian government headed by premier Ismail Haneyya warned on Wednesday of the impact of the serious remarks made by Israeli chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi about waging another all-out war on the Gaza Strip.

During the weekly cabinet meeting, the government called on the international community to curb Israel from committing more war crimes in Gaza.

The government also condemned the American remarks voiced by secretary of state Hillary Clinton towards the issue of settlement expansion and Palestinian rights, saying such a position was not strange or new, but it was a heavy blow to those who wagered on the option of negotiations with the Israeli occupation.

For its part, the Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas, stated Wednesday that the renewed Israeli threats made by Ashkenazi against Gaza bear out that Israel is trying to show itself in self-defense position in order to mislead the international public opinion after its war crimes and atrocities in Gaza were exposed by the Goldstone report.

In a statement posted on the Qassam website, spokesman for the Brigades Abu Obeida noted that these threats are an official Israeli acknowledgement that the last war on Gaza failed miserably and did not achieve its intended goals as Israel was propagating after the war.

Spokesman Abu Obeida also highlighted that the Qassam Brigades takes seriously Israel’s threats and finds no other option but to receive its troops in the way they deserve.

Israeli chief of staff Gabi Ashkenazi stated Tuesday during a graduation ceremony for ground forces that Israel would not feel sorry for waging another war on Gaza and killing children and civilians, alleging that Hamas would force them to do that.
