Spokesman downplays ousted Mubarak’s wealth

Spokesman for ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak has denied allegations by the media concerning reports on his vast wealth. Media reports said Mubarak had transferred his wealth reported to be between $40 billion and $70 billion to secret bank accounts.
According to the spokesman the rumours of the ousted president's wealth, accounts and foreign assets are aimed at tarnishing the former leader’s reputation.
The spokesman defended the former president stressing he submitted financial statements on time in line with the law.
Mubarak had stepped down on February 11 following 18 days of anti-government protests which broke out nationwide leaving close to 400 people dead and about 5,500 injured.
Investigations into Mubarak’s financial dealings were ordered and Egypt called on the US and European countries to freeze the assets of the country have ousted leader and his family.
