Freedom and Justice Party (FJP) Secretary General, Dr. Saad Katatny, met Monday with China’s Ambassador to Cairo, Song Ikawa to discuss  bilateral relations between the two countries and the latest developments and current events in Egypt following the January 25 Revolution.

Katatny praised China’s economic experience describing it as sophisticated. “The FJP’s Financial Committee is currently studying China’s methods in running its economy and is hoping to learn from its experiences and knowledge,” he said. Topics discussed included Egypt’s position before the parliamentary elections. “It is virtually impossible for any political party to run the country alone. Egypt is in dire need of unity and solidarity between all political factions. The FJP is currently seeking cooperation and coordination with all elements. It does not seek a majority in parliament. It is democracy that we crave, and that is why the Democratic Alliance made up of 40 diverse political parties and factions was formed,” he explained.

For his part, the Chinese Ambassador stated that there were many similarities between Egypt and China. “It is apparent that Egypt will have a promising future,” he said. Ikawa added that his country was confident that the FJP, which enjoys much popularity and has grass roots, will be a leading contributor to the democratization process. He stressed “I believe the party will play an important role in the development and advancement of the economy in Egypt during the upcoming period.”
