Pro-Democracy National Alliance Rejects Illegal Decision Disbanding Freedom and Justice Party

The Anti-Coup Pro-Legitimacy National Alliance denounces the flawed and defective decision issued to dissolve one of its components, the Freedom and Justice Party (FJP). The court has departed from legal process and constitutional rules.

There is glaring evidence of politicizing the justice system and of a total lack of real independence of the judiciary.

This decision comes within the scheme to monopolize or nationalize the political arena, and to drag the people into a cycle of violence. It exposes once again the clear intention to trample the people's choices, as it dissolves the party with parliamentary majority, in both houses of parliament.

Practically and effectively, the military junta dissolved the FJP weeks ahead of the July 3, 2013 ruinous coup, in a series of planned attacks on the party's headquarters in a number of provinces, storming, trashing and torching the FJP's offices.

Then, the heinous traitorous junta arrested the FJP's Chairman and leading members. It shuttered all the FJP's remaining headquarters, froze all its accounts, and closed its official newspaper. These actions and decisions, as well as many similar pre-meditated junta maneuvers, eliminated the gains of Egypt's first democratic experience that followed the January 25 Revolution.

This was further followed by more acts of violence against all supporters of democracy and constitutional legitimacy, with arbitrary arrests, detention, trials and threats to all opponents, especially civil parties with Islamic reference.

All these brutal actions fall within the framework of the exclusionary premeditated plot to pre-empt all the benefits of the January 25 Revolution and the demolition of constitutional legitimacy, as well as a definite and totally justified political hostility. Perhaps the reason is that free and fair elections made the party's leader (Dr Mohamed Morsi) the President of the Republic.

The National Alliance is not surprised at the military junta's latest illegitimate maneuver; after all, the generals' hands are already heavily stained with the blood of innocent Egyptians. They arrested a large number of leaders and symbols of the revolutionary movement from all the Alliance's groups and other revolutionary entities on clearly trumped-up charges.

They effectively froze all political action in Egypt and militarized the whole country. They continue to acquit, exonerate and release from prison the icons of corruption of the ousted Mubarak's regime. They even televise their attacks on the January 25 Revolution… among many other crimes against the people that will not be time-barred.

The National Alliance asserts that the Revolution continues, and that attempts to impose a fait accompli will not work; and declares that it is considering all available political options and alternatives in light of crude junta justice's latest defective decision. The Alliance will announce its position soon.
